Iran has signaled a potential halt to peace talks with the United States, citing allegations that Israel breached a ceasefire agreement with military actions in Lebanon. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that the ceasefire is binding on all fronts, including Lebanon, and any violation would be seen as undermining the entire accord. Iran holds both Israel and the United States accountable for any repercussions stemming from renewed conflicts.
In response to these developments, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that Washington had not received formal notification from Iran regarding the suspension of talks. Nonetheless, he suggested that a temporary pause might be manageable. Trump reiterated that the United States would continue its blockade on Iranian ports while steering clear of immediate military escalation.
Amid efforts to uphold the ceasefire, Trump engaged in talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and intermediaries associated with Hezbollah. Subsequently, Lebanon confirmed that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hezbollah to cease hostilities, including halting attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Despite this, Netanyahu cautioned that Israel would persist in targeting Hezbollah should attacks on Israeli civilians continue.
Tensions escalated further when Israel issued evacuation alerts for areas in Beirut. In retaliation, Iran warned that any substantial Israeli assault on the Lebanese capital or its southern suburbs would provoke counterattacks against targets within Israel. Iranian officials also charged the United States with not fulfilling ceasefire commitments, pointing to sustained economic pressure and military maneuvers. Tehran has made it clear that future dialogues, particularly concerning its nuclear agenda, will be postponed until broader security issues are resolved.
